Plans (12/17/2025)

The miniwall will be completely revised, using code bits from the other displays.
- It will include selected images taking up all 6 panels
- It will include multiple possible phenomenological focus modes, e.g.
  1. HRRR (or other) model forecasts, or
  2. Tropics, or hurricane monitoring by basin, or
  3. Global imagery / analyses, or
  4. ENSO status + analyses ripped from NOAA + forecasts; or
  5. Spring severe weather: outlook, radar, current analyses, watches/warnings; or
  6. Winter weather: WPC outlooks and analyses, radar, current wx, watches/warnings; or
  7. Fire weather, or drought (or both?)
  8. Multiple channel US imagery (incl. highest-res vis over all displays), or EU satellites...
  9. I will survey faculty and students on the possibilities.
- It will have an interactive feature:
  1. where you use a QR code for a simple web page (phone access) to submit a request for (temporary) switch to one of these focus modes.
  2. request goes to server, not display micro-PCs; displays can then choose mode from server settings
  3. Can restrict to campus IPs and/or regularly changed codes for spammers.
  4. I already scoped this out in principle w/David some months ago.
Entrances will get a freshening more suited to likely viewer needs (e.g. forecast always up, local radar if local weather ongoing, etc.)
Stairwells will be sig. modified and eventually also have
1. multiple modes + interactive options suitable to CLiMAS needs, and
2. ideally also a way to get floor maps or even specific map/directions to faculty/staff offices. Someone will need to make graphics for each faculty member plus map to office.

Everything will be with an eye toward my future absence...

3rd-floor Miniwall: Operational display • Slide 1 • 2 / 3 / 4 • Slide 5 / test version is under development, i.e. it doesn't work yet.
- I am starting with the a copy of the stairwells script.
- So it will have the heartbeat included.
- It will not work like the old miniwall script, which is probably good...
- Better error catching/management is a key requirement.
